Moving up from my recent super nintendo game posts, i have decided to talk about another old but more recent console, the sony playstation, and one of its classic games, DOOM. The sony playstation revolutionised gaming, with 3d graphics far surpasing the previous gaming consoles.

Not only did the sony playstation have better graphics, they were very dedicated on making great games for the platform, one of these being the game doom. Doom was one of the first shooting games available, and created the whole shooting genre, which is now are the most popular platform games.

Doom is based on the story that hell has escaped on earth, slaying these monsters in the most gruesome way possible. You have an array of weapons at your disposal, from plasma guns to chainsaws and even your metal studded fist. The game was so successful not only due to the fact it was a shooting game with many weapons, but the levels were very well thought out.

The levels continually keep you on your toes, with well hidden monsters and a maze like quality constantly keeping your brain busy. The game is also full of many secrets which keep you trying to find many weeks after you have completed the game.

Overall i really recommend this game to any avid gamers, who dont mind a drop in graphics from the modern day games to a game based on just classic good old gameplay. Here is a trailer below which gives you a basic idea of the gameplay and i hope it encourages you to play.

Gears of War 3 is the new edition to the Gears of War series. This is another first person shooter that that takes place on a Fictional planet called Sera and is about the war against the Gears and the enemy called the Locust. It is the kind of game for people that dont mind a bit of gore, aswell as online multiplayers. Similar to halo, it can be played online against people from all around the world. Gears of War 3 is also the last in the series that is going to be released. They have brought in new weapons and AI to make the game more challenging and fun.

Continuing on from last posts theme of old games, I thought I would share some information on another one of my old favourite games, Donkey Kong Country on super nintendo. This game was one of the first adventure games with a sort of 3d atmosphere and also an external 3d world map.

In this game you control two monkeys, donkey kong and diddy kong (his smaller companion). Donkey Kong is large and brutish, and Diddy Kong is his small agile companionship during the journey. The game lets you control and swap between either one, making the game much more diverse.

Not only do you control the 2 main monkey characters, but along the journey there are many different animals you can ride and control. This includes things like flying birds, rhinos, dolphins and the fast running emu. This keeps the game exciting and you are constantly on the look out.

The game levels are separated between different worlds, moving from world to world with the complishon of the boss of each section. It is surprising a game of its day has suxh integrated bosses. They are verd hard to beat with many tatics needed to dodgey and manouveur yoursel to victory.

The levels themselves are very different from world to world, keep you excited to continue at the game. Going from slippery ice worlds, to stick bee caves and jungle scenes. I would highly recommend this amazing game to anyone, and it will keep you extremely busy with easy gameplay.

I was having a boring wednesday night and have been playing my favourite games to death. Thats when it occured to me, why not play some of my old favourite. I'm of course talking about the old super nintendo system from 1992, coupled with my favourite classic game Super Mario Kart.

This game kept me away from studying as a kid for countless hours, and im sure even the older of us would have appreciated this innovative game, which basically started the world of racing games and helped develope the whole console gaming world along with Super Nintendo.

In this game you can choose a character from the classic mario series, such as mario, luigi, princess and of course my favourite, toad. You race around rather basic tracks using these characters, seperated into 3 different cups, star, mushroom and flower. Get golds in all 3 cups and it allows a harder mode, 150cc.

It progressively gets harder and harder and is actually quite challenging once you get to the last cup (special) in 150cc. Not only do you race in this game, but you can also get prizes situated on the track. These prizes allow you to attack other racers, or gain special bonuses like invincibility or speed boosts).

Despite being alot older now this classic old game i had long forgotten manage to keep me busy all afternoon, and I realised I hadn't played a game in a long time that was based around gameplay and fun, and not special effects and graphics.

I recommend if you have an old console like sega and super nintendo to dust it off and give it a go, you will definately be pleasantly surprised. Unlike most conventional games, in the Assassin's Creed series, you play as the bad guy. Sent on missions to kill people of interest, you have to overcome obstacles, drawing as little attention to yourself as possible. Scaling buildings, blending in with crowds, silently listening from dark places. All these become challenging within the game. Again the is a series of games, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood being the third one now. They have improved the gameplay, cinematics, and artificial intelligence. Aswell as just add to the different ways you can stay hidden.

 

 

Counter-strike is a first person shooter games, players can choose the roles they want to act in terrorist or counter-strike.  A player can choose four different roles in each team. The winner is the team which first finishes their mission or kill all the members of the other team.

World of Warcraft is an MMO(Massive Multiplayer Online) role playing game where the player creates a character of their choosing to explore this massive online world. Joining up with other players and making groups, you can work together to kill bosses and dungeons. It is the most popular online game in the world with over 10 million people playing it. I have got a few screenshots of when i was exploring the world that i have uploaded below.

This was a shot on my birthday and if you can see down in the left hand corner. It is a bunch or random people yelling happy birthday to me.

This is one of the groups i played with alot where 25 people from all around the world help each other and work together and just have a good time.

Bungie are bringing out the new Halo game. Halo is a first person shooter that has been around for many many years back when the first Xbox was released. This was back in November of 2001. There has been 4 halo games prior to Halo Reach. Halo reach started being created back in 2007 when Halo 3 was released, and there has been a lot of anticipation for the release of this game. It is going to be the last of the Halo series so they have worked extremely hard on the game. Redoing the way the Artificial Intelligence works, redoing the graphics and changing so much of the way the game is played. Along with this they have also added new features such as vehicles, weapons and a new style of map alteration.This is going to mean that creating your own vesions of maps will become alot easier.

It can also be played online where you can play a range of different game types from Capture the flag to King of the Hill. The online side is probably the most fun part of the game, however the storyline that has been developed over the Halo series has people sitting on the edge of their seat to find out what happen's at the end. Anyway there are a few images i uploaded for the release of the game.

As a group we just finished making our blog, email, and choosing our topic. We are going to be blogging about new and upcomming video games aswell as discussing old classics such as counterstrike. We also spent a little time on creating a banner for our blog using the website mybannermaker.com.
